The Telstra Smart Modem is a hybrid modem that acts as both a modem and a router.
The modem allows your compatible devices to connect to the internet and helps to keep you connected – even when there is a fixed broadband* network outage or disruption – by automatically switching to a backup mobile internet service**.
Can I use Telstra smart modem with TPG NBN
Welcome to the Community! Customers can use their third party modem/router as long as it is not locked with your previous provider.
If you are on a BYO NBN plan, then you need to configure the connection type to PPPoE and use your TPG username and password.

Can you replace NBN modem
As a rule, your modem has to be compatible with your technology type. You can’t just use any modem with any internet plan.
For example, if you’re changing from ADSL to NBN, there’s a chance you might need a new modem.
But if you’re just changing NBN plans at the same address, you won’t need a new modem.
Are Telstra NBN modems locked
Telstra modems are not locked to the network. But, they do have fairly closed firmware on it.
Unless you’re tech-savvy, you may have a hard time getting it configured to work with any other provider.
So, you might be better off using an approved router for your current ISP.
Can I use my old modem for NBN
Unfortunately, if your current modem router doesn’t have the necessary Ethernet WAN port, you will need to buy an Ethernet router before you can use your new nbn™ connection.

Is Telstra and NBN the same
Telstra is a retail service provider in respect of services on the nbn network.
We do not own the nbn network; we re-sell services to our customers, like the other retailer service providers who also offer broadband services on the nbn network.

The new Telstra Smart Modem 3 is available to new NBN signups from today.
Existing Telstra customers who are keen to upgrade from the Smart Modem 2 to the new model will be able to do so for $9/month over a 24-month period.

As a quick tip, your provider will often offer a modem with your NBN plan, or you can simply look for a modem or router with a ‘NBN Ready’ sticker attached, or check the NBN Co’s website for a full list of device requirements.

In a browser, go to ‘speedtest.telstra.com’ to perform a speed test. If you’re able to access the internet when plugged directly into the nbn connection box, there may be a piece of equipment that is causing the issue.

In most cases, you’ll be able to re-use your NBN modem from your previous NBN provider.
How do I update my Telstra modem
How to update your firmware. Manual firmware updates are not available on the Telstra Smart Modem, these will be automatically updated when they become available.
Updates are pushed out between the hours of midnight and 6:00am.

It is a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 modem/router with a maximum speed of 2.4Ghz/573.5Mbps (20/40Mhz bandwidth) and 5GHz/2401Mbps (20/40/80/160MHz) or a total of AX3000.
