What Does BT Full Fibre Mean

Full Fibre is our next-generation broadband with a dedicated connection that runs straight to your home.

It uses the latest fibre-optic technology to offer gigafast download speeds up to 900Mbps and ultrafast upload speeds.

How long does it take for BT hub to arrive

Your BT Hub should arrive by post two days before your installation date. Please have it ready to hand when the engineer arrives.

The engineer will bring the other bit of new equipment you need – an Openreach fibre modem.

What equipment do you get with BT full fibre

If you’ve got Fibre to the Home or Fibre Home Phone you’ll get a modem, a battery back-up unit and a BT Hub (if you don’t have one already).

What router do I get with BT Fibre 1

Like BT’s other fibre broadband plans, you’ll also get the Smart Hub router included on Fibre 1.

If you upgrade your plan with Hybrid Connect or Complete Wi-Fi, you’ll get the newer Smart Hub 2 router instead.

The Fibre 1 plan also includes BT’s Virus Protect service for use on up to two devices.

How can I get internet while waiting for WiFi

If you have decent 4G or 5G signal, then you can use your smartphone’s hotspot.

Also known as tethering, this takes your mobile data and creates a mini-WiFi hub which you can connect other devices to.

Bear in mind that this will eat through your data pretty quickly, so make sure you have enough.

What happens if you plug in router before activation date

Don’t worry it will not mess anything up. If when you are advised that the service has been activated nothing works simply push a paperclip or similar into the factory reset hole and hold the switch closed for 20-30 seconds.

What is superfast broadband

Superfast broadband is broadband that offers speeds between 24Mbps and 300Mbps. It’s best for people who find themselves downloading, video calling and streaming TV and music on a regular basis.

It’s also a good option for households with more than one person using the internet at the same time.

Do you need to drill a hole for broadband

The engineer will then install further cables to entry points inside your home, which will require them to drill a small hole in your wall.

They’ll then complete the setup to ensure it’s all up and running as you expect.

The process should take between 30 minutes and two hours.

Whats a good internet speed

A good download speed is at least 100 Mbps, and a good upload speed is at least 10 Mbps.

With 100 Mbps, you can watch Netflix or YouTube, attend Zoom meetings, and play most online games on several devices at the same time.

Some people can get away with fewer Mbps, and others need more.

How does G Fast work

G. fast works by using the current FTTC infrastructure already installed. It works in the same way, taking data along copper cables from the internet service provider to the street cabinet and then utilising fibre optic cables to take the data from the street cabinet to the premises.

What does FTTP stand for

FTTP and FTTH are two different abbreviations for the same thing. FTTP stands for ‘fibre to the premises’ and FTTH stands for ‘fibre to the home’.

They are used interchangeably, along with ‘Ultrafast’ and ‘Full Fibre’.

What is ADSL broadband

ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is a technology that facilitates fast data transmission at a high bandwidth on existing copper wire telephone lines to homes and businesses.

Unlike regular dial-up copper telephone line service, ADSL provides continuously available, always-on broadband connections.

Can I use a master socket as an extension

You must always plug your Hub into the broadband connection on your master socket.

If you plug it into a phone socket or extension, it just won’t work.

How is broadband activated?

  • You will receive your new broadband router in the post prior to the activation date
  • One the day of activation, connect your new router to the master phone socket
  • Power up your router and wait for an indication that it’s online
  • Connect your devices to the new hub

Can I activate BT Broadband early

On the day, we’ll switch it on any time up to midnight and we’ll do our best to make sure you don’t lose service.

You can check your activation date and follow the status of your broadband activation by tracking your order online, or via the My BT app.

Can I get broadband before I move in

You can set up your broadband before you move in either online through the providers’ website, or on the phone.

Moving broadband between homes is easy when you know how.

Do I need an engineer to install BT Broadband

Connections and installations Most of our packages can be installed without an engineer coming into your home.

But if you do need an engineer visit, we’ll let you know before you order.

Then we’ll offer you the earliest available date for the visit.

Does my router have to be plugged into the wall socket

Of course, routers must receive power via normal means. The vast majority of Internet routers include a standard power outlet that can be plugged into a wall outlet, an extension cord, a surge protector, or just about anywhere else that accepts this regular plug.

Can I get internet before moving in

Can you set up internet before you move in? Not exactly. You can (and should!) transfer or set-up service in your new home ahead of time so that you’re ready to connect as soon as you start to settle in, but you’ll still need to go through the process of installing your modem and router and setting up your network.

Which broadband providers do not use BT lines

Virgin Media is the only major ISP (internet service provider) to offer broadband without a phone line.

This is because it operates its own cable network that’s independent of Openreach.

Do you need a telephone line for broadband

In most cases, you need an active phone line to get standard ADSL broadband along copper phone wires, or fibre broadband into your home.

The reason most broadband services require line rental is that your broadband and phone share the same phone line.

Can you get internet without a phone line

Mobile Broadband uses a USB dongle, data-only SIM or a Wi-Fi hotspot, which allows you to connect wirelessly to 4G or 5G internet.

It’s the most popular form of broadband without a fixed landline, and one of the best options if you’re looking for something flexible.

Can I have 2 master phone sockets

Re: Is it OK to have 2 master sockets on same line? Yes, leaving that set up as is should be fine.

Does BT charge for engineer call out

There’s no charge for most engineer visits. So, if an engineer is already visiting your premises to carry out some work, there wouldn’t be a cost.

What is rod and rope

Rod and Roping is when new and existing conduit is proved and feed with rope to assist in the cable hauling on new copper and fibre cable for repairs, upgrades and new infrastructure works.

Is EE broadband part of BT

Is EE part of BT? Following a merger in 2016, EE became part of the BT Group.

EE’s mobile network is the UK’s most reliable mobile network and offers 5G in more of the UK than any other network.

EE also has more than 600 shops in towns and cities across the country.

Can I move my ONT box

No unfortunately moving the ONT and its delicate fibre cabling is likely to cause damage to the equipment or fibre strands, and can stop your broadband service from working.

Who is better Virgin or BT

Overall. Virgin wins by a mile on speed, but lags slightly behind BT when it comes to customer service; two of the most important factors when it comes to choosing a broadband provider.

BT has decent technology and some great extras, but if you want fast and reliable broadband, Virgin may be the way to go.
