Can Openreach Use Virgin Ducts

Re: Can BT full fibre reuse Virgin Media’s ducts (coaxial cables) Welcome to this user forum.

No Virgin Media have their own network which is separate to Openreach`s. Openreach would normally use the existing route that your telephone line would take.

What is the Openreach box in my new home

This white box connects to a fibre-optic cable that runs to your house and enables you to access our FTTP fibre network for broadband and voice.

There are several lights on the ONT, when these lights change colour or flash, it means something is happening.

Does CityFibre use Openreach

Two of the country’s leading infrastructure providers have announced major extensions to their gigabit networks, with Openreach publishing plans to deliver gigabit-capable full-fibre broadband to 56 more locations, and CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full-fibre platform, continuing its £15m digital

Why do Openreach take so long

So why do customers have to wait so long for broadband? It’s just that it’s a manual process.

Each connection takes roughly 30 minutes, and only two technicians can work on an MDF of this size at once – there’s simply not the room.

BT Openreach gets four working days to do this process and update around 40 databases.

Can I complain to Ofcom about Openreach

Ofcom may be able to help you complain about or report issues relating to phone, broadband and postal services, TV, radio and on-demand programmes, interference to wireless devices, or something you have seen on a video-sharing platform.

Find out more about the types of complaint we deal with.

What router comes with Bt fibre 2

Apart from that, you’ll get the regular Smart Hub router included on Fibre 2, or the newer Smart Hub 2 if you upgrade it with Hybrid Connect or Complete Wi-Fi.

If you get the Complete Wi-Fi add-on, you’ll also be given a Wi-Fi Disc to boost the coverage in your home.

Who are Openreach main competitors?

  • Virgin Media – Virgin Media offers much faster broadband speeds than services which use Openreach
  • 4G/5G mobile broadband – With the roll-out of 5G, mobile broadband is a real competitor to Openreach and offers great speeds
  • Satellite Broadband – Broadband via a satellite dish

What cable does BT broadband use

The Ethernet port is normally marked LAN and will connect with the ports on the back of your Hub.

But if you have Full Fibre, you will need a Cat5e Ethernet. BT will supply this, and it’s the cable with red ends.

You can buy Cat5e cables elsewhere, but they might have different colours.

Does Virgin Media use Bt lines

Virgin can only use BT ducts in areas where VM provide full fibre-to-home services.

If you are in a fibre-to-cabinet HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial) area, as most existing areas are, the thicker coax cables VM use will not fit in BT ducts & VM have to lay their own ducting.

Which providers use BT line

Most fibre providers use BT’s Openreach network, including BT itself, Sky, TalkTalk, Plusnet, and EE.

Why are Openreach in my street

Why is this? The Openreach availability checker checks to see if the street cabinet (the large green box on the street) is fibre enabled.

This means it has fibre capability and is ready to accept orders from all communication providers.

Do Openreach own all phone lines

Essentially Openreach owns the entire UK phone and broadband network – and those 32,000 employees are very busy, making around 9.5 million visits to homes and businesses a year; 25,000 per day.

Is there an alternative to BT

Virgin Media is a common BT alternative worth considering, since they use completely seperate coaxial cable lines to offer faster speeds.

Other major alternatives like Plusnet, Zen Internet, and Shell Energy offer different plans and customer service, but use the same Openreach lines as BT.

Do Openreach engineers work weekends

Openreach engineer appointments run from either 08:00 – 13:00 or 13:00 – 18:00 Monday – Saturday.

Does EE broadband use BT line

Despite BT & EE being part of the BT Group, their broadband and home phone packages are not the same.

However, the infrastructure is identical as both providers use the BT Openreach network. Each provider has their pros & cons – it just depends what you need.

Is EE broadband part of BT

Is EE part of BT? Following a merger in 2016, EE became part of the BT Group.

EE’s mobile network is the UK’s most reliable mobile network and offers 5G in more of the UK than any other network.

EE also has more than 600 shops in towns and cities across the country.

How long does Openreach take to fix faults

Openreach normally aim to fix reported faults within 3-5 working days of being notified of them, but that could easily lengthen due to bad weather causing high demand.

If they have to dig up the road, Openreach have to obtain permission from the local authority.

Which broadband providers do not use BT lines

Virgin Media is the only major ISP (internet service provider) to offer broadband without a phone line.

This is because it operates its own cable network that’s independent of Openreach.

Does BT own all broadband

Simply put, BT owns the network and Openreach is there to maintain it. For example, Openreach owns the network cables that connect most businesses and homes to the national broadband and telephone network.

Can I install my own fibre

Since installing fiber most often requires laying a new cable and setting up specialized equipment, some fiber providers do not give the option for you to self-install fiber internet.

You must have a technician come to your home to set it up for you, which can be very expensive.

What is full fibre broadband

What does true full fibre mean? True fibre broadband is known by many names, including Full Fibre, Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) or Fibre to the Home (FTTH).

This means that fibre optic cabling is used from the local exchange, all the way to the end-user premises, relying on no copper-based telephone lines.

Does Vodafone broadband use BT lines

Vodafone vs BT: Fibre broadband and availability Both providers use the Openreach network – which, incidentally, is owned by BT – to provide their services.

Do I need an engineer to install BT broadband

Connections and installations Most of our packages can be installed without an engineer coming into your home.

But if you do need an engineer visit, we’ll let you know before you order.

Then we’ll offer you the earliest available date for the visit.

Is fibre better than broadband

Fibre cables can handle much larger amounts of data which means these packages are much quicker than standard broadband.

As they provide faster speeds, they’re great for streaming, downloading and gaming on multiple devices.

Find out more about our standard fibre broadband and phone packages.

Can you have a landline with full fibre

Will I have a landline with my Full Fibre service? As there is no landline facility attached with Full Fibre (Fibre to the Premise) this is a broadband only service.

This means that there will be no dial tone, so if you need to contact the emergency services, you’ll need to use a mobile phone.

Do BT and Virgin use the same cables

Virgin use their own infrastructure. BT uses Openreach’s so if Openreach have either full fibre or Fibre to the Cabinet in your area it will be a different cable used to what Virgin Media gave you.

What equipment is needed for full fibre broadband

Your telephone or extension cable plugs into the telephone socket and your BT Home Hub plugs into the data socket If you’ve got Fibre to the Home or Fibre Home Phone you’ll get a modem, a battery back-up unit and a BT Hub (if you don’t have one already).

Is fibre 1 or 2 better

With a Fibre 1 package, speeds increase to an average of 50Mbps, and with a Fibre 2 package, speeds can average 67Mbps.

Users with Fibre Essential and Fibre 1 get upload speeds up to 9.5Mpbs, and Fibre 2 users benefit from upload speeds of around 19.5Mpbs.

Can I install fibre broadband myself

You’ll only usually need an engineer to visit your home if a new type of broadband is being installed at your home, such as Virgin Media’s cable internet or a full fibre provider.

Do you need a new phone socket for fibre

If you’re setting up your Fibre, you don’t need a special faceplate. We’ll send you microfilters to use with your existing socket.

However, you don’t need to worry about microfilters if your master socket has already had a broadband accelerator faceplate fitted (master socket with two sockets).
