Can I Have 2 Master Phone Sockets

Re: Is it OK to have 2 master sockets on same line? Yes, leaving that set up as is should be fine.

What is the difference between a modem and a router

Have you ever asked, “do I need a modem and router?” To put it simply, the modem connects your home to the Internet, while a router creates the network inside your house.

Can I contact Openreach directly

Just click on the icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. Alternatively you can call us on 0800 023 2023 (option 1).

What is the Openreach box in my new home

This white box connects to a fibre-optic cable that runs to your house and enables you to access our FTTP fibre network for broadband and voice.

There are several lights on the ONT, when these lights change colour or flash, it means something is happening.

How long does a Bt engineer take

How long is the appointment? The installation takes around three hours and the Openreach engineer will need access to your property.

If you aren’t available, someone over 18 will need to be around.

Are Openreach and BT the same company

Openreach Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of BT Group. We look after the copper wires and fibre cables that connect homes and businesses to phone and broadband.

Our customers are the 690+ communications providers who sell phone and broadband services to these households and businesses.

Why is Openreach separate from BT

Openreach was established in 2006 as a business division of BT. Following a series of reviews by Ofcom, in 2017 Openreach underwent a process of reform to be incorporated as a separate company within the BT Group, rather than a business division.

The change was required for competition reasons by Ofcom.

What is the BT Openreach box for

If you are fibre customer you might have an Openreach modem (or ONT) installed.

This white box connects to a fibre optic cable, which runs directly to your house and allows you to access our fibre network for broadband and voice.

How do I activate BT Openreach?

  • First make sure your Openreach fibre modem is switched on and you have a constant green ‘Tel’ light
  • Slide back the FIBRE/COPPER cover on the top of your main phone socket to show the small switch
  • Now from your home phone, dial 142599 between 8.30am and 4pm and listen to the message

Can I install a BT master socket

Re: master socket installation If the main line comes in overhead, then Openreach can be asked to re-locate the master socket to where you want it.

If it comes in underground, then you would need to provide access for Openreach to fit a master socket.

You can then run your own extension from that master socket.

Why do Openreach take so long

So why do customers have to wait so long for broadband? It’s just that it’s a manual process.

Each connection takes roughly 30 minutes, and only two technicians can work on an MDF of this size at once – there’s simply not the room.

BT Openreach gets four working days to do this process and update around 40 databases.

What wiring is Bt responsible for

BT Openreach has total responsibility for the telephone network to your property and your NTE5.

However, the wiring going from the NTE5 into your property is your responsibility. Consumers are not permitted to tamper with the core part of the NTE5.

Is Openreach the same as BT

Who is Openreach? Openreach Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of BT Group. We look after the copper wires and fibre cables that connect homes and businesses to phone and broadband.

Our customers are the 690+ communications providers who sell phone and broadband services to these households and businesses.

How long does it take to get fibre installed

An installation can take anything between 1 to 4 hours depending on the complexity of getting the fibre cable from the boundary wall to where you want the CPE to be located.

Once the CPE has been installed, you will need to plug your computer into the CPE with a LAN cable.

Is EE part of Openreach

EE runs on the same Openreach network as EE and most other UK broadband services, which means it has exactly the same coverage.

Fibre services now reach 93% of the UK population, while over 6 million homes are able to connect to a full-fibre FTTP network.

What does RJ-11 stand for

(Registered Jack-11) A telephone interface that uses a cable of twisted wire pairs and a modular jack with two, four or six contacts.

RJ-11 is the common connector for plugging a telephone into the wall and the handset into the telephone.

See modular connector.
